What type of community is The Haven at Elgin?

The Haven at Elgin is an independent living community. We provide a safe, supportive, family-style home for adults who are able to live independently but enjoy the comfort of meals, community, and oversight.


Who is independent living for?

Independent living is best for individuals who:

  • Can take care of their own personal needs

  • Are able to move around safely

  • Manage their own medications

  • Communicate their needs clearly

  • Value independence with light support and structure


What services do you provide?

We provide:

  • Comfortable housing in a home-like environment

  • Three home-cooked meals daily plus snacks

  • Housekeeping and in-house laundry

  • Social activities and weekly outings

  • A supervised environment with staff oversight

  • Coordination of outside services when requested

Is independent living covered by insurance?

No. Independent living is private pay and is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
However, residents may use their personal insurance for outside services such as medical appointments, prescriptions, home health, or therapy.


Can family visit?

Absolutely. Family and friends are welcome. We encourage visits and involvement—it’s part of what makes our home feel like family.

What services do you NOT provide?

We do not provide:

  • Medical care or nursing services

  • Medication administration or management

  • Personal care assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming)

  • Medical monitoring

Residents or families may arrange outside services as needed.

Are meals included?

Yes. Residents enjoy three hot, home-cooked meals daily, along with snacks throughout the day. Special meal preferences are accommodated when possible.


Are residents required to participate in activities?

No. Activities and outings are offered to encourage engagement and social connection, but participation is always optional. Residents choose what fits their lifestyle.


Are rooms private or shared?

We offer flexible living options, including private suites and shared rooms for couples or close friends, based on availability and preference.


Is transportation provided?

We coordinate transportation for group outings and can assist with arranging transportation for appointments through third-party providers.


Is staff available?

Yes. Somebody will be available to provide oversight, support, and assistance with daily coordination, while respecting each resident’s independence.
